These highlights are just awful. I followed the instructions precisely and I got yellowish orange highlights. I look like a clown. The worst thing is this happened on a weekend. Phone support is only available during the week so I sent an email asking for help. I’ve had no response and this is the third weekday. So now I get to go to the salon and spend at least $150 to fix this disaster. So much for trying to save money by using esalon.

I have been using eSalon color for several years & have always been very pleased!!! However, I just tried the light set & was not at all satisfied. I followed the video instructions very carefully & felt I did everything as instructed. My highlights turned out very brassy & uneven. I would not recommend trying this product.

I followed directions to a tea and now I look like a brassy dope. I used the toner mask twice now and it is still horrific. I am so disappointed and embarrassed that I have brass streaks through my hair until they grow out. I could not be more disappointed right now

This is awful. Turned my hair orange . The toning mask did nothing and I ended up having no choice but to go to a professional who had to color correct my hair. It was a waste of money and time. I do not recommend.

Update: Esalon credited my account for the cost of the light set w/o me asking for that, so I do appreciate their practices as a business. Just wasn't happy with the results.
My hair is a level 6 brown and used the light to medium brunette kit. The highlights were very drastic, too light and almost orange. The toner didn't tone at all. Luckily I had an extra bottle of all over color to cover the highlights. Unfortunately as the color fades the highlights will show through. I would not recommend the light set.

This was very difficult to use. I have been really happy with the regular color so I thought I would try the light set. It didn’t mix up the way it was supposed to. It was very difficult to apply. It came out really brassy. Not something I will try again.

Okay I don’t even know where to begin.
I read the instructions and did as directed.
There is not enough activator to keep the lightener hydrated enough to keep on the hair. It just dries and is a powdery mess.
Application is poor due to the thick consistency. Which yields poor results.
I followed instructions, got assistance with application, and it is quite frankly awful.
Now have to go to the salon or to buy a box die to fix this awful mistake.
Save yourself the trouble, don’t buy this.

After dying my hair with a beautiful custom made brown from here i tried the light set! Regret this so much as will now have to go to the salon to fix the mess it caused. patchy orange strands, even though followed instructions and watch the video several times before applying. ! Would not recommend

I am leaving 2 stars because I would have liked the highlights had they not turned out splotchy. Not as bad with the first few, but closer to the top layer there was huge splotches of hair that stayed brown in the sections that i attempted to highlight. I had to go to a salon to have my hair fixed. Apparently the splotchy parts were from the solution drying out too much before applying. I did mix it when it started to puff up per instructions so ... I don't know. I attempted to save money doing this at home and then spent almost $200 at the salon to fix it. Anyways, if you have no experience with highlighting your own hair, you may want to just have it done professionally.

I'm not sure if I stirred it too long or not long enough bc it was very thick and hard to spread and came out patchy. My hair was lightened but my roots were bleached in some places. It looked real bad. Luckily I had a hair dye on hand in case I didn't like it so it was a relatively easy fix thank god.

I watched the video, thought I could do it… I could not! I couldn’t do the balayage. I tried but it was a fail. It was streaky and looked terrible. The product was fine but the application on my part was failure.

The bleach mixture was so dry and chunky that I had a hard time getting it to go where I wanted it, even with the brush. I couldn’t get the pieces of my hair that I wanted to highlight evenly saturated so now my hair has orange patchy spots. And the purple mask does absolutely nothing.

The instructions and kit are wonderful! Easy application. However, the colour is atrocious! It’s brassy orange. Not ‘golden’ and definitely not subtle. The toner seems ineffective.

I didn't buy this to do highlights. More so to lighten the underneath part of my hair. I got atleast 3inchs of hair from the nape of my neck, up. my hair is very long as well so i cant say if the quantity of the product was sufficient,but again, i wasn't highlighting.
The main problem waa the consistency of the product. HOW DO YOU EXPECT US TO USE THIS, ON OURSELVES AT THAT,WHEN WITHIN 3MINS THE PRODUCT IS CHALK DRY AND FLAKING OFF ????!!! cant glide it thru. Cant smush it thru. Application by brush you say??? Hahah FAIL. Why? Why would you offer a product like this?? There is noooo control with the bleach. Mix it,grind it into hair strands and then inhale bleach dust. Ita absolutely horrible !!! This is the 3rd fail with your products .needless to say i am officially done with my membership .

I tried this, but was not successful. I'm leaving the door open that maybe I did something wrong because of how much I believe in eSalon's other products that I use. After discussing this with a color stylist, they offered to replace it for another try. I can't wait to try it again.

I was delighted when I received the kits, they're really well put together and I definitely felt like it was money well spent.
Unfortunately, the deposit colour processed very unevenly, and the colour itself is very flat and cheap looking. I was a professional stylist for years, so I feel confident that I followed the directions accurately.
I haven't tried the highlight kit yet, going to do a few hair masques first, see if I can get some shine back into it.

Die Stränchen ließen sich nicht so einfach, wie beschrieben auftragen.
Einige sind viel zu hell/ gelb geworden.( Ich finde es nicht so ideal bei dunkelbrauner Haarfarbe)
Ich habe die Zeit verkürzt, daher sind auch ein paar dunklere dabei.Meine Haare sind strohig geworden, vor allem die Spitzen sind trocken. Ich habe die Anwendung wie beschrieben durchgeführt.

Im totally not happy with the results from my light set!!! My hair now has big bright patches of orange-blonde hair! It says this will look sun kissed but that’s not my results AT ALL! I followed all the instructions on the video and the written ones and definitely left the toner mask on for 15 minutes but my hair is orange not blonde! And the process was fairly easy until I got to my crown area then the written instructions are very confusing i honestly couldn’t understand where exactly to put the highlights cause I do part to my right so I parted there like instructed but then it says you should take the thicker part and split that into 2 which I did but from there I was uncertain as to where to put the highlights so now I have these huge chunks of orange-blonde hair on my part line and it looks awful I’m so embarrassed and I’m supposed to be going to a Halloween party tonight!!! I have no idea what I should do I’m not happy with this light set at all. I sent a message to esalon team I’m praying they can help cause I don’t know what to do!!!

Not sure if it is me but my color turned very brassy. I think I would have been better off with just a lighter shade of brown instead of medium to dark blonde as the color was a light blonde. I also used the Aura purple on the underneath back and nothing. No place to review the fact that it didn't work at all. Complete waste of money for the Aura.

I had been using the light works to add highlights to my dark blonde hair and they always turned out beautiful and natural; but Not this time. This time they turned out yellow even after using the toner for 13 minutes !!! Not happy here!!!

Ich fand es sehr schwierig, die Farbe aufzutragen. Der Farbton ist auch etwas gelblich. Die Konsistenz der Farbe ist gut. Leider sind meine Strähnen etwas ungleichmäßig geworden. Aber nicht besonders schlimm

I think I probably needed some more tailored instructions, or perhaps a complementary video for someone with finer hair (and greys!). I didn't want to color my hair, so was just going on the top of natural hair. I feel like the final color is a) more orange than I would have wanted and b) not properly applied using my very novice expertise! I put the color all the way to an inch away from my scalp, and feel that isn't what the images on the website show. Overall - just too advanced for my skill set!

this is the first and the last time i will ever buy this light set - after i started to apply the color it got cacky, lumpy and didn't stick to my hair. Once i finished, it looked horrible, there were different shades of orange! I am glad my daughter was available and we went to sally beauty to get color to correct my hair - i had a baby shower to go to with bf family, this would not have made a good impression!!

I've used the light set previously and was impressed with the results. However this time my hair has patches of very blonde and orange stripes. It should have been caramel!! Looks nothing like I had hoped for. So unhappy as I go on holiday tomorrow and will have no opportunity to fix it before I go.

Came out great from what I did, but not enough product when I ordered for thick and extra long hair. I was nervous about this but figured they would send enough product for those who need it as indicated.
Now the top of my head has major roots. Need to order a second batch to get the completed balayage look.

I watched the videos and followed instructions exactly, but I ended up with orange tiger stripes and hot spots. My hair is medium/dark brown. They offered a toner to help, which mostly worked, but will wear off since it’s a toner. I’ll have to spend $400 plus to get a color correction professionally done.
I do not recommend this product.

Although I knew it would be tough applying the first time, it was not nearly as easy as the video showed. Despite using the toner twice, my “highlights” look like the brassy hair that grows out after a month or so of getting highlights. Yellow tint, not a fan.

Easy to apply and I was hopeful that going with the dark-medium blonde over a dark beige blonde base color would result in nice cool toned highlights. But the results are…brassy.
I had previously tried the light brown light set formula (on my natural light brown hair) and the same thing happened. I thought maybe it was because the light set for light brown hair was formulated to be more caramel toned highlights (to go better with light/medium brown hair) but it seems that the kits just can’t get me that ashy/cool tone that I covet. Maybe if I was super light blonde? Oh well. Twice bitten and all that.

I read all the reviews saying the Light Set was easy to use and how great the results were. Brave woman that I am, I thought I’d give it a go. My first attempt was ok the but the results were a little too subtle, though I’d followed the instructions and watched the video. My second time has left me looking like a tiger even though I watched the video again and followed the instructions to the letter again. My base is a dark brown, though I’d started working my way to medium brown. The almost-orange highlights I’m now sporting are not a good look. Luckily, I have an unopened set of eSalon dark brown color that I hadn’t used because I decided to go lighter. Tomorrow I will be coloring my hair dark brown again and PRAYING that I can save this mess.
Incidentally, I’ve been using eSalon color, shampoo, conditioner, and loads of the styling and treatment products since late 2021. I’ve absolutely loved everything else I’ve tried and their customer service is fantastic, too. I’m really bummed and frustrated that I got such awful results when I had really high hopes.

The directions were confusing, my whole head is almost blond and I did do strips, not all over. I have obvious spots near my root where it was not lightened. I'll never do this again, even if the directions were better.

I have thick coarse long hair and the instructions to take a strand of hair and run the brush upwards with the gunky color mixture was a disaster. It tangled my hair impossibly and strands of my hair wrapped around the brush and I had to pull the hair out to get the brush untangled. the bottom 3-4 inches of my hair were ruined. I had to get a drastic hair cut and furthermore there was no color lightening. I ask for a refund for this product and I highly recommend that you amend your instructions warning clients with hair like mine to avoid using an upward motion to apply,

I left this on for half of the suggested time and it absolutely destroyed my hair. I followed the technique in the video which shows large sections of hair in the front so the whole front of my hair looks fried.

I had virgin dark blonde hair to begin with, followed directions to the letter and anywhere the dye touched (meaning once you’ve pieced and painted sections and laid it against unlightened hair) it became a patchwork of uneven yellow mess. I’m really surprised at how much it bled onto the rest of my hair looking as if I drowned the whole head. Did I use too much product? It didn’t seem so. Used the toner as directed and while soaking the ten minutes I began to hope as it was looking less drastic. Rinsed and now I have dry, yellow patchy hair. I’ll be wearing hats for a while until I can figure out what to do. Kicking myself that I bought two sets thinking I’d do it again!

I have carefully watched the video tutorials and instructions, but they are not useful. I follow the steps in the video to highlight, but the color is very abrupt above my head. This makes my hair very ugly. I have to wear a hat when I go out and buy hair dye to correct my hair color!

Highlights have come out orange and my hair looks horrible.
To fix it I have to dye my whole hair multiple times which I really didn’t want to do due to hair damage. Really disappointed and know my hair is ruined for the next year until this grows out long enough to chop it off.
I’ve been told afterwards that my hair catches to colour really well and that 35 minutes is way to long. There shouldn’t be a flat rate of time to leave highlights in. Really disappointed and upset on how much extra money I will have to spend and hair damage I will have to endure to keep covering this section of hair up until it’s long enough to chop off.

Was hoping for more of a cooler toned hightlight. Easy to apply but too brassy. Left on for full recommended time and used the toner. Glad I did small sections and not big streaks. Not sure if I’ll try again?

I liked this product, however not used it on me. You need someone else to work on your hair so it doesn't look choppy. Strands must be secure so they don't touch your colored hair.

First time I used this product it did nothing. The second time I used it, I went in with a heavier hand and all it did was turn my hair very warm, not nearly as light as I was hoping. I used their pro toner but my hair is still more brassy than I like.

Leider schaffe ich es nicht, die Farbe so ebenmäßig aufzutragen, dass das Ergebnis gleichmäßig wird. Zwei breite Strähnen am Gesicht (wie es derzeit "in" ist) sind super hell und strahlend geworden, die schmaleren Strähnen am Hinterkopf aber nur leicht aufgehellt und nicht gleichmäßig. Vielleicht ist dieses Set einfach nichts für mich. Schade.

I watched the how to video and read the directions each three times. Parting my hair took a half hour. I followed the directions exactly but the highlight above my left ear and one on the part on top ended up way too light. I wear my hair up a lot and it's really obvious.

I used this once and it really, really dried out my hair. If you have thicker hair it may work fine for you, but for fine hair, I would not recommend it.

There was not enough of the lightening mixture. By the time I reached my top sections I had completely run out resulting in no highlights on top and just through the mid sections of my hair….it looks awful.

Trying to do this on your own even after years of coloring is a joke. I have medium brown hair and my highlights turned out more orange than anything else. And they were really chunky, I have thin hair, so this process did not work well on me. I think the instructions for thin hair should be different for thick hair. I tried to contact them 2 times and didn't get anything back, so I colored my hair again using store bought color. Saved me! I will still use my normal esalon, because it does seem heathier than store bought color.

My hair turned orange. I contacted my colorist who replied quickly and asked if I would be willing to try another kit and toning mask. My hair turned orange again. The toner did nothing. When I sent pictures she said I can see the orange tones and said at my cost I could try it again. Now I’m stuck with orange hair.

I tried the highlights before and had pretty good results with a little brassiness. This time I did highlights a day after coloring and it turned my hair bright orange. It was recommended I use esalons brunette pro color toner to tone it down, so I used that and now my hair is black brown. Just not good all around. I’ll stick with color but reluctant to try highlights again, and definitely shouldn’t have used the Pro color toner which made a bad situation worse.

Leider wie bei allen Strängen-Anwendungen. Es alleine zu versuchen ist mit hohem Risiko verbunden, dass Strähnen ungleichmäßig am Kopf verteilt und nicht fein genug sind. Gerade bei fein gewählten Strängen, die mit einem Stielkamm abwechselnd gewählt werden, zieht sich die Farbe in den Ansätzen auseinander, und zudem befleckt sie umliegende Strähnen, die nicht eingefärbt werden. Wenn man nicht ein absolut geübter Profi ist, der mit Alufolien-Falttaschen am gesamten Hinterkopf hantieren kann, kann ich das nicht empfehlen. Ich werde ab sofort leider die Finger davon lassen müssen oder mir Strähnen (wirklich feine Highlights) beim Haarsalon setzen lassen müssen.

I was so excited about this product. I was hoping for salon quality color for a fraction of the price. Except it turned my daughters hair orange, even though I watched all of the tutorial videos and read the instructions over and over again. It was horrific, and I had to take her to the salon to fix her hair. So in the end all it did was cost me even more than if I had just taken her to the salon in the first place, wasted so much of my time with all of the videos watched, and damaged my daughters hair. I also can't seem to find where I ask for the money back guarantee. I am so disappointed.
